Cabbage Duncan F1 Seeds

Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds Ltd

Cabbage Duncan is a small pointed variety that has crisp, sweet and nutty leaves, an excellent variety and size for the home-grower and is great in the kitchen too. We love it gently sauteed with butter, salt and pepper & a sprinkle of chilli flakes in the spring and also gently fried until crispy (like Chinese seaweed) to add flavour to top off our Chinese style stir-fries or just as a flavoursome side dish for our Roast dinners.

Cabbage Duncan is an excellent cabbage that can grace the table nearly all year round. A much-welcomed variety that can help fill the hungry gap of early to mid-spring when little else is available to harvest.

Cabbage Duncan Vegetable Seed Information

Indoor Spring sowings February to April
Outdoor Spring sowings – Late April to May
Autumn sowings July to September, October undercover.

Sow seed thinly (late April to May) in a well-prepared seedbed, 1cm deep in rows 15cm apart. If the soil is dry, water it well and allow to drain before sowing seeds. Seedlings appear 7-12 days. When seedlings have 5-6 leaves transplant into permanent bed, spacing 45cm apart in rows 45cm apart. The soil will benefit from adding a general purpose fertiliser before transplanting, gently rake it in but do not fork in as cabbages like well-consolidated ground. Water well and keep well watered.

Indoor spring & late summer/autumn sowings can be sown in small pots and kept in a greenhouse/polytunnel. Transplant outside after about 5-6 weeks in September/October after hardening off. They will benefit from some added protection like cloches at this early stage.
